The Way We Work- Phillosophy, Beliefs, Values

We work with some of the biggest names in the industry and we never disclose the names of our clients or details of any of our engagements. This works pretty well for us because we never call up clients asking for business and we don't give references. All our business is inbound. We send across complimentary literature to our clients through news letters and mailing lists. Which is the best way to track what we are upto.

The other thing we believe in is that if we don't ask for a fair price of our offerings, we won't be able to afford doing what we do, we won't be able to afford the worlds best consultants or experts. We are sure there are other low price segment players but we are not in that league. Thats one of the reasons we don't hide our going rates, because, well, for most part they are non-negotiable. If others could do what we can do for you we are sure you would choose them at a lower price.

We are very polite but we are quite blunt in speech. The primary reason for that is because if we start thinking about business and making money we will stray away from excellence and doing the right thing. And we want to do the right things, we want to be the last resort for leaders who need a helping hand building companies.

We have an open environment and we normally stay away from elaborate contracts but rather believe in the honor code. We don't want to spend our time on litigation, so unlike most companies we won't put elaborate clauses in the scope document and pitch price against that and send you a dozen change requests. We will work for you, with you.

We would like to help companies do better but most companies don't let us help them, we have no regrets and we walk away after giving our recommendations leaving them to their fate. That said we do take responsibility but sometimes it is hard to be held negatively accountable for our advice when your workforce of 5000 employees and 800 odd managers fail to deliver. But we will always be there to support our clients in the implmentation if needed. Success doesn't come easy.

We will debate the fundamental assumptions in place in your company. Asking us to stay away from doing that is a recipe for disaster. You can't tell a doctor to help you but you won't do an Xray, CAT Scan and not take medicines. Almost in 75% of the cases the problem is because of fundamental flaws in assumptions which could be temporal, outdated or totally wrong in the present context. We are there to help you, help us help you. Atleast let us come to the stage of making an impartial recommendation. Whether you choose to accept or not is upto you.

One of the biggest problem we face in engaging our clients is when our clients dictate what to do, how to think and how to do it and try to force a prefered solution on the engagement. It completely eliminates the utility of external consultants. While we do take leads but we would like to say that we work with 20 of fortune 100 clients and draw from the experience of working with another 300 companies spread throughout the world. While every company might think that their problem is unique and has no parallel across the world, we would like to say that we find that 50-80% of problems faced by companies across the world are the same, only the solution and its implementation is specific to each company.

"We are some of the biggest Software Geeks on the planet. If you know what that implies you would understand how we work even if not mentioned here explicitly"

Most of us take a sabbatical to work in other companies and come back with practitioners field knowledge. If you like to hire someone from AY&A let us know. Typically our employees join as Directors/VPs and/or CTO's to steer client companies on contract for between 1-2 years.
